Any game with an element of luck has a certain amount of variance and for some short periods of time the normal distribution will suffer deviations.

Side Pot

The side pot is the pot on the side in a hand with one or more all-in players. The main pot in a hand is the pot that all active players may win. When a player goes all in but there are more players who have more chips then he, they still can bet and a side pot will be created.

It is possible to generate as many side pots as necessary.

Dark Tunnel Bluff

A dark tunnel bluff is a repeated bet that is made as a response to the feeling that you must bet, without thinking about what the opposition are doing or why they have stayed in the hand.

It doesn't have to be a pure bluff, rather it refers to unneccessarily adding to the pot, often with a marginal hand with which a player doesn't know where he stands. Such bets do not have the desired effect of the opposition laying down their hands.

Typical dark tunnel bluffs are hands in which beginners raise with a good starting hand that doesn't improve in any street, but they cannot bring themselves to stop betting.

This situation tends to happen when a player is on tilt.

Longball

Playing longball strategy means to play for a few big pots with a few good hands instead of going for many, smaller pots with marginal hands, called smallball strategy. The longball player waits for a good hand and then play them very aggressively.

Slowroll

When someone leads you to believe that you have won a hand in poker, but then turns over a very strong hand. Usually is only done with a winning hand to irritate an opponent who still believes he holds the best hand.

Keep in mind that this cannot be considered slowrolling if there is another player to act after him. Then it is called "hollywooding" and is acceptable if you are trying to keep a third player in the pot.

Belly Buster

Belly Buster is the same meaning for an inside straight draw. Missing one card to make the 5 cards sequence. It is more often called a gut shot.

A Double Bellybuster in when you have two inside straight draws. For example, if you are holding a T9 and the board is K Q 7 6.

Pot committed

Pot committed means that the pot is laying you such good odds that (you cannot fold) and you have to call.

If you have invested half of your stack in the pot and another player puts you all-in, then you will get pot odds of at least 3:1, meaning you need only to win 25% of the time to break even.

BUT If you are certain that you are beat, it is never correct to call the river.

Push

Making a push means that you are going "all in". Your whole stack will go to the centre of the table. Once you are all in, you don't have to make any more decisions. And 2 things will happen. The original meaning of "cold deck" is fixing a deck with the intent of cheating.

Donk Bet

Donk bet is an unexpected or risky bet made by a player who was not the aggressor in the first place, usualy into a player who was the bet aggressor.

A typical situation for a donkbet is when a player calls a raise in the first round and then bets into the raiser in the next round.

Donkbets started to be dumb moves by inexperienced players but know can also be deceptive maneouvers made to trick an opponent since they are often viewed as weak play. They are also used as blockbets. This means that a small bet is made to keep the opponent from making a large one that could put us out of the hand.

This can also be called a bet out of nowhere.

Backdoor

After the flop, you have a backdoor when needing to use both of the two remaining cards to come to make a Straight or a Flush. Backdoor Straight or a Backdoor Flush.

ROI - Return on Investment

The Term ROI can be used in SNG but also in MTT.
Every time a player puts up money to enter a tournament, he is making an investment on it. ROI is the percentage of profit a player makes per tournament. The money he makes, subtracted from the primary investment, is the profit. ROI can be calculated by taking the total profit and dividing it by the total amount paid to enter all tournaments played.
A ROI of 7% would be considered good. A ROI of 10% or more would be great. Usually, a players ROI decreases as he goes to higher stakes. In higher stakes, a ROI of 4% would be considered good and 7% or above would be considered stupendous.
